Dear Wizard,
I love writing. It is my dearest passion— however— I find myself with a problem. I haven’t written in months. I have stopped cold and I do not know what to do.
This year, I have been struggling with my mental health, physical health and my finances. It has been hard. So often in my life, writing has been my retreat away from the difficulties in the world and in my life. However, these past few months, I feel like I have been unable to pick up a pen or to open my file to work on anything.
Everything inside of me feels dead and lifeless. What do I do? I feel like I have lost momentum on my writing.
I have stopped.
Thus, Wizard, I am here to ask you this: how do I start again?
Where do I start?
Please help me,
Motionless Marie (she/her)
Dear Marie,
Momentum is another word for a person’s spirit or vigor. Perhaps this is a message from the Universe for you? You have lost your vigor. It has been a tough year for all: worldwide there has been a seismic change with this accursed plague that the Universe has sent us. Not only has it been a globally tough year, it sounds to me as if it has been a personally tough year for you too.
I recommend investing time into your vigor. What does this mean?
It can mean different things for different people. Generally speaking I recommend a few things that help me. If you can, make sure you drink enough water or other fluids throughout the day. Water is the best, I find for myself, but I know everyone has different preferences. Secondly, if your apothecary has prescribed any particular remedies to you I find that taking them in a timely manner is helpful. Finally, I recommend a timely bathing of oneself. It is hard to engage in the exploring the vastness of the Universe when one feels filthy— at least in my limited experience.
I know these things in and of themselves do not further our studies. However, one can have trouble studying when one is not feeling well. This inertia can lead us to some dark places. Thus, I advise rigorously that you invest in finding the time to devote to restoring that vigor you used to feel.
Studying the vastness of the Universe can feel overwhelming for any or all of its students. I understand this intimately. Thus, I hope these recommendations help you in your quest to reignite your studies.
Sincerely,
A Wizard
