#17 Composting the Soil of Your Spirit

Dear Wizard,

I haven’t been writing much lately because I feel like I’m empty…I can’t seem to find the motivation to do much of anything. I try to take walks or bike rides when I can, but mostly, I am stuck at home. And I feel like the monotony is getting to me.

How do I shake things up and get myself back to a place where I can feel creative again? I hate feeling so…stuck. That feeling makes me feel so helpless. I hate it. I want to be able to open up my document and pour words into it.

Yet, every time I open my document, I am met with a blank page and a blinking cursor.
I swear that the cursor is judging me. Write, it says, and my brain refuses to help me. So, I just sit there and stare at my screen, while silently screaming to myself. What can I do, Wizard? I feel so alone and so helpless. I want to change my circumstances, but I do not know how to do it.

Sincerely,
Empty Tank (fae/ faer)

Dear Tank,

I know it is difficult with the plague keeping us home to take in a change of scenery. However, when the Universe doesn’t make it easy for us to make a literal change of scene, we can always take a metaphorical change of scenery. Thus, I encourage you to do things to help you relax.

For example, it sounds like you have been leaning heavily into your spell work. Perhaps now is the time to open up a book and do some reading. Either to study the Universe. Or you know, for pleasure. Either way, reading can help transport you out of the doldrums of your home. It can take you on an interior journey that will help you in your studies of the Universe.

Next, I encourage to continue your sojourns of walking and biking (while safely masked) out of the house. These exercises will help you to expand your mind and keep you on your toes. Everything that you see, smell, and hear on these meanderings will help to bring you new stimuli. Ultimately, the Universe takes everything we experience and composts it, renewing the soil of our spirit.

It sounds to me like you have been working hard and not taking the time to refuel your spirit. This is difficult in times where it is hard to leave one’s home safely. However, there are things you can do that will help you to regain your sense of wonder at the exploration of the Universe.

Have you cooked and/ or eaten a nutritious meal lately? Have you made a cup of tea? I enjoy making tea because I find it meditative to boil water in the kettle and prepare a cup with loose leaf. Then I take a deep breath and smell the rich earthy tones of the leaves. It helps to ground me and revitalize my spirit.

Other recommendations I have: take a warm bath or shower, changes your clothes, connect with a friend or family member via crystal ball call. Staying home can feel isolating. And often our isolation as wizards is self-imposed, but when it comes from the outside, it can feel suffocating.

Ultimately, do your best to take care of yourself. And to allow yourself the latitude to compost your experiences so that you can continue your sojourns into the Universe.

Sincerely,
A Wizard
